SUMMARY:Kendall Lujan / Ruby Oland
DESCRIPTION:Kendall Lujan  \nhttps://www.kendalllujanmusic.com/ \nhttps://www.instagram.com/kendalllujanmusic/ \nPortland\, Oregon based artist\, Kendall Lujan embarks on her first full length album “Lucky Penny’ it is set to be released February 21st 2025.  After releasing her Debut self titled EP last Spring\, featured on official playlist for Spotify and Apple Music. Lujan also gaining attention from NPR’s Tiny Desk\,  MTV and winning the John Lennon Songwriting contest. Recently voted one of Portland’s ‘Willamette Weekly’ Best New Bands 2024. Sharing the stage with Amos Lee\, Frazey Ford (of The Be Good Tanyas)\, Allie Crow Buckley\, Early James\, and The Magnetic Fields. \n        ‘Lucky Penny’ features many genres Including Jazz\, Folk\,  Bosa Nova and Indie-Rock.  The natural singer and songwriter put together a studio band with Micah Hummel (drums)\, Colin Schmidt (bass) and Alex Milsted (piano) and recorded at the Map Room Studio in Portland\, Oregon with Dominik Schmidt producing. Her forthcoming first full length album “Lucky Penny’ is set to be released February 21st. \n        Her writing is real\, introspective and reflective. After touring the songs in Europe three times this 1.5 years\, Lujan is ready to show her versatility and growth as an artist. The first single to be released late March 2024 titled ‘Goodbyes’. The song explores mourning and loss of important people in your world.  In the sense of ending romantic relationships it explores the process of knowing when someone isn’t suited for your life or growth any longer.  Lujan writes  “I wrote this song to remind myself that even though things are hard you will meet those people who stick around eventually.” Even though people come and go in your world\, remembering that there will be lots of cries and laughs on your journey to finding those people who see you for who you are. The main hook stating:  ‘it takes a lot of goodbyes to get to forever. \n  \nRuby Oland  \nhttps://www.instagram.com/rubyolandsings/ \nhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/0Sd59gnF8rXLzdoKRRufHM?si=Z7NJ66c3TiGtcs9tRm1vFQ \n A sense of place and belonging resonates from the music of Ruby Oland. An intriguing voice\, akin to Patsy Cline or Angel Olsen\, snares tidbits of fleeting existence- a trapped moth\, sparks from a fire\, roadside sunflowers. Oland has been recording and releasing music independently for nearly ten years\, with two EP’s and two LP’s under her belt. Born in Utah\, she has been bouncing between Portland and Northern New Mexico. Crafting odes to the rivers\, deserts\, and mountains of The West; to all of the enchantments that occur within its liminal spaces. Although her earlier releases were folksier\, think Mountain Man or Adrianne Lenker\, her latest work has fermented into a sweet twang\, a honeyed country glaze\, aligning her in a more “y’allternative” lane. Her 2019 EP Wolf Spider was recorded and produced by Ryan Oxford (Y La Bamba\, Rose City Band). Later\, her two full length albums\, Born in the West & Perfectly Colored Moth\, were recorded and produced by Jack Omens (Wicked Shallows\, Beggars Canyon) and released in 2021 and 2023. One might hear influences of Leonard Cohen\, Lucinda Williams or Conor Oberst in her creations. Ruby Oland’s lyrics are apt to sweep down the canyon\, jump into the cold river\, circle around the campfire\, all before returning to the familiarity of your own childhood backyard.
